Fairfield

Fairfield is a quiet, established Lower Hutt suburb, the kind of place where neighbours know each other and kids still play outside. Guests often comment on how handy it is to public transport, how close the hills feel, and just how quiet and restful the street is, while still being a comfortable walk into the city centre.

Lower Hutt

Most people planning a Wellington trip don't think to look at Lower Hutt, but it's a city in its own right, home to around 114,000 people and one of New Zealand's largest. We're a short 20 minute car or train ride from Wellington CBD, about the same as crossing Wellington itself from one side to the other.

Plenty to do, right here

Lower Hutt has its own museum (the Dowse, free entry), Queensgate shopping centre with all the big names, the new Te Ngaengae Pool with waterslides, Avalon Park just up the road, and Hutt Park Indoor Sports for trampolining, indoor play, and clip and climb. You don't need to go far to keep busy.

Closer than you think

From up on the hills above us you can see just how close Wellington really is, it's right there across the harbour, just 20 minutes away.

A beautiful playground

The Waiwhetū Stream trail is two minutes from our door, and the Te Whiti Riser can be walked as a loop without needing a car.
